So on the offchance anyone still reads this I'VE GOT BIG NEWS!!!!!!
ROY PROPOSED!!!!!!!!!!
and I said yes. Whoot! A picture of my gorgeous ring can be found on my myspace. As can pictures of me and my wonderful future husband!
He spoiled the heck out of me that day- it was our anniversary- I went to work in the morning and I keep getting cute text messages from him while I work, and then I recieved a huge bouquet of longstem red roses from flowers by rachelle which is one of the absolute best florists in Chico (and where he buys me all my flowers ;) ) and he made us reservations at 5th st steak house, rated one of the best restaurants in Chico. I got off work and made a run to a store to buy something new to wear out to dinner with him, went home and got all ready to go. When he showed up he couldn't wait, proposed right in my bedroom.
The ring is easily the most beautiful thing I've ever owned. It was one of this grandmothers diamonds- flawless, colorless, deep cut diamond, that he had set into a simple but really beautiful white gold ring, he had it made into a wedding set so we've got the other part too. But I don't get to wear the rest for another year and a half while he finishes school. merp. Anyway the diamond is a big deal for his family, as his grandmother (great grandmother actually) brought it with her when she fled Russia. Many of the other ones she owned had to be pawned to get the money to make it from Russia through China and finally to the U.S. The family has like 8 left including the one in my ring--
His family was in on the whole thing for a month before I knew about it.
Anyway since then we've had my ring resized (I wear a 3.75 because I'm the worlds tinest freakin person). They didn't believe him when he told them 4.5 was his guess. lol. And he used to work in a jewelry store he knows...
Anyway his family is thrilled about it. My Dad is thrilled about it and it sounds like maybe my sister and brother's woman are happy about it. I haven't got to talk to my brother but he knows about it I'm not sure which stance he took. Pretty much the entire Dad's side of the family is happy. My mom, queen bitch surpreme- first thing to come out of her mouth is "oh... well I hope you guys go to premarital counseling first" and then 20 minutes of lecturing me. She had nothing nice to say. I suspect my grandmother told her to keep her mouth shut on Christmas because she didn't say anything bad anyway- but she still hasn't said anything nice about it either, hence why I haven't returned any of her calls.
This is not to say my grandmother reacted in an excited way- perhaps more confused than anything else. We'd recently had a talk about husbands- would he be the person you'd want raising your kids if you died-
and I told her in more or less words that I wasn't anywhere near ready to have kids that people my age were crazy for having kids- and of coure I'm at the age where she had her first.
What she doesn't get is the answer to her question is yes- the person I'd want raising kids if I had them and something happened to me is Roy-- that doesn't mean it's time for me to have kids. She seems to think getting married is time to have kids- where as I want some time for just him and me and we can worry about kids later.
Anyway among the taking it badly are: my mom, my boss, and a few friends who seem to more find it odd than taking it bad.
Among the taking it well- a few coworkers, Roy's parents, my dad's side, both aunts on my mom's side, and a massive amount of friends, particularly the ones that have been around us enough to know that this is different than my last two long term although far less than fantastic relationships.
Aside from seriously needing a new job, everything is going great. The only other issue is finding a new living situation. My current roommate is ready to move in with her fratboy- and me and Roy don't have enough money to just be the two of us. We're hoping his roommate will in fact buy a house as he's been talking about doing, and then we can rent out 2 rooms, one for all our computers, books, gaming stuff and the other for a bedroom. Roy says he gives it a 50/50 chance that he will both 1. get a house and 2. decide we'd be the roommates he'd pick. He's not so sure about me being a roommate even though I can pay more money than anyone else he's got in mind- he's not sure about having the soon to be married couple with him. Bleh. I wish I knew for sure, I had the Chico roommate shuffle. Every 6 months or so you gotta pick up a new roommate. I tend to stay in one place longer than that, I just can't get any roommates who will. So while I was planning on having everything stay the same for a year and a half as far as living situations go- that plan didn't pan out.
But seriously- if my only real complaints with life are figuring out living situations and my jerkface mom I really think things are going quite well. :)
