Abortion is oppression.
2004-10-22 // 3:29 p.m.
So I was walking along campus and I see a sign "Without abortion, you have no choice".
Are we as women so ignorant, so horrendously stupid that we believe this?
Suddenly I'm bombarded with a concept that abortion is a systematic form of opression of women that we internalize this concept as a right so we can't even see any more how oppressing this idea is. Why do men have no say in the matter? Men are not the targets of the oppression.
How does it benefit people in power? Now we have men who don't have to worry about the results of their actions. We have men who can fuck-away, not concerning themselves with possible consequences of their actions.
We have women whose men don't want to use condoms- as if COME ON GET REAL such a thin piece of latex so reduces his sensitivity that he can't get off. And why should we force men to wear condoms? After all, we don't HONESTLY have to worry about consequences.
But what about syphillis? What about gonnorhea? What about the fact that over 30% of Chico State women have GENITAL WARTS!?!
Also- in this perception that we have no choice without abortion...
What about birth control pills? What about the shot? What about contraceptive foam?
What about us being intellectual enough to figure this out? What about us being resourceful enough to handle the consequences of our actions?
What about us being smart enough to avoid the problem or to handle it if we flub up enough to allow this to occur?
What about adoption, what about the ability to go to a hospital or fire department and safely surrender the child if we so badly DO NOT WANT IT. Or what about using the morning after pill if we've been quite this stupid up to this point.
OUR WOMEN ARE HOPELESS IF WE CANNOT FIND A REASON TO ACT SOONER. WE ARE IGNORANT STUPID FAILURES IF WE ARE SO OUT OF CONTROL OF OURSELVES THAT WE CANNOT MAKE USE OF ALL THESE OPTIONS.
Without it you have no choice... my ass.
I am smarter than this. I am more resourceful than this. I can be responsible for my actions and not perpetually treated as a minor with someone to take the impact for me.
And why should we be so ashamed of pregnancy- so quick to assume that we are too stupid to have a child and a career. Many women do this successfully. Are they smarter? Are they more capable? Or are we just convinced that we can't to keep us down? We have this amazing ability to give life- fuck this notion of women having penis envy what can it do? Get hit and hurt, be out of control unless you are using your hands to guide it? Whats so special about that? This is a method of oppression so that we forget that our genitals are far more impressive, and far more deserving of envy.
Feminism does not mean you have to support this bullshit.
